AMD Threadripper series The Threadripper series of processors sits between the commercial and consumer space. Free upgrades for compatible Windows 10 devices were expected to take until mid-2022 to be delivered, but Microsoft is ahead of schedule. In January 2022, the company announced Windows 11 was entering “its final phase of availability”, although you download Windows 11 right now on all hardware that meets the requirements. These are significantly more strict than Windows 10, with Microsoft supposedly prioritising security. But does that mean your device won’t be able to get Windows 11?...

However, that could all change in the next 12 months. As Windows Central reports, Microsoft is planning a major overhaul of the Windows 10 user interface for 2021. It’s likely to shift the design to be similar to Windows 10X, Microsoft’s stripped-back, web-first OS also slated for release next year. Some of the big change we’re expecting involve areas of the UI that have been in need of updating for a while....

Chief Product Officer Panos Panay teased the idea of the ‘next generation of Windows’ at Microsoft’s Ignite developer conference in March, suggesting wholesale changes were on the horizon. However, that may have included Windows 10X, a project which has since been officially cancelled. Still, CEO Satya Nadella continued the optimistic tone at Microsoft Build 2021, another developer-focused event. In an official address to kick-off the three-day conference, Nadella revealed that ‘one of the most significant updates to Windows of the past decade’ is on its way ‘soon’....

One of the most controversial updates is the new Start menu, which has been completely redesigned. A stripped-back aesthetic means it’s now primarily a launcher for your most used apps and files. Few people are mourning the loss of Live Tiles, but this dramatic simplification doesn’t suit everyone. Fortunately, there are various ways to get the Start menu looking just how you like it. There are both free and paid options, depending on how serious you are about Windows 11 customisation....

The issues appear to be caused by the TPM 2.0 module, one of Windows 11’s key hardware requirements. Both Intel and AMD CPUs enable TPM via system firmware that’s independent from the rest of the OS. Intel’s implementation appears to be bug-free, but AMD users aren’t so lucky. As Windows Latest reports, the issue seems to be caused by compatibility issues between AMD’s TPM (known as fTPM) and Windows, as opposed to a bug within the OS itself....

To take full advantage of the K-series CPU, a high-performance motherboard is required and Wired2Fire has selected the Asus Z170-P, featuring Intel’s enthusiast Z170 Express chipset which unlocks the overclocked modes of the Core i5 chip. Asus has also added advanced manual and automatic overclocking modes, should wish to push performance even further and to make it easy to overclock and future processor upgrades. It also comes with a built-in USB Type C connector and enhanced audio....

When is the Xiaomi Mi 5X release date? The Mi 5X was unveiled by Xiaomi on 26 July alongside MIUI 9, the latest version of its custom operating system based on Android Nougat. It is now available to pre-order, and will ship after 28 August. The event took place at the China National Convention Center at 14:00 GMT+8. Xiaomi is reaching out for MIUI 9.0 beta testers. The beta will be open to owners of the Xiaomi Mi6, Redmi Note 4 (Qualcomm edition) and Redmi Note 4X....

The Mi Mix 2S’ class-leading performance, beautiful design and feature-heavy specification make it difficult to look at other flagships in quite the way. It is evidence that buying Chinese phones can get you so much more for your money. Key features in this ‘S’ model over the previous Mi Mix 2 include a faster Snapdragon 845 processor, a dual-camera with AI and Qi wireless charging. It still has the bezel-less (at least on three sides) and also notch-less 18:9 large-screen display we’ve previously admired, and gorgeous ceramic design that, on the black model (it’s also available in white), features 18K gold bling on the rear....

The video shows what initially appears to be a small tablet which folds using two hinges at roughly 25% and 75% of the device’s length – the middle 50% of the screen acts as the phone display, while the two outer-quarters swing around to the back of the phone and clip neatly together against the device’s rear. The tablet, which was originally held in portrait mode, is turned 90 degrees to landscape mode and used as a phone....

The clunkily-named Zoom for Home – DTEN ME is a 27in touchscreen display with three wide angle cameras, eight microphones and, of course, Zoom built in. The device costs $599 and is only available in the US. Head of Zoom Rooms Jeff Smith told TechCrunch: “Zoom for Home is an initiative from Zoom that allows any Zoom user to deploy a personal collaboration device for their video meetings, phone calls, interactive whiteboard annotation — all the good stuff that you want to do on Zoom, you can do with a dedicated purpose-built device....
