The top-end model with 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, global bands and a free wireless charger (also new, retailing at 99 RMB or £11) costs 3,999 RMB, which is about £449 – a crazy price for a flagship. New features of note include an enhanced 12Mp wide-angle + 12Mp telephoto dual-camera that builds in AI for on-the-fly translations and special background blurring effects....

On 6 August, Android P was unveiled as Android 9 Pie and rolled out immediately for all Pixel phones. Update June 2016: The iPhone SE has replaced the iPhone 5S in Apple’s iPhone range. Essentially, it’s the internals from an iPhone 6S in the body of an iPhone 5S. It costs £359 for the 16GB model, making it very good value for an iPhone that performs this well with the excellent rear camera from the iPhone 6S. You can still buy a brand new iPhone 5S, though. You’ll pay around £250 for the 16GB version or around £350 for the 32GB model....

The rumours were – surprisingly – true. The new Apple Watch is called the Series 2, and it will start from £369 but it’s waterproof, faster and has a brighter screen and built-in GPS....

Unlike the Apple Watch, Sony’s SmartWatch 3 wearable actually exists. But Apple’s Watch will be a customisable smartwatch designed to work only with recent iPhones that is also a comprehensive health- and fitness device. So on the one hand we have a high-spec smartwatch limited to use with Apple smartphones, and the other an Android Wear smartwatch that should pair with all smartphones. We know a lot about the Sony Smartwatch 3, and next to nothing about the Apple Watch....

The AC68U supports 600Mbit/s 802.11n speeds thanks to Broadcom’s TurboQAM feature, but it’s unlikely you’ll see the benefits, since without a TurboQAM-compliant adaptor in your client PC, of which there are very few on the market, you’ll be limited to the usual 450Mbit/s. It could be a good feature for future-proofing if laptops start to favour adaptors with TurboQAM support, but many have Intel radios. There’s a single USB 3....

That’s not to say you can combine the two though – the latest notebook graphic processors are fast but not quite capable of playing action games at UHD resolution without struggling. In our tests the G501JW could average 32fps in Batman: Arkham City at 3840 x 2160 with middling Normal detail – albeit with dips to 20fps that may prove troubling. Tomb Raider at the same settings averaged 27fps, also too close for comfort....

Asus VN247H monitor review: Build quality and Design The stand is a tilt-only affair (forward 5 degrees, backwards 20 degrees), made of textured plastic, which we think looks a lot better than glossy or a plain matt-finish. There’s no pivot or height adjustment, but you can replace it with your own VESA 100x100mm stand, which can be handy if you want to wall-mounts the monitor or use your own multi-monitor stands....

Familiar-sounding brand Asustor is unsurprisingly a venture for Taiwan computer maker Asustek – more popularly known as just Asus. Founded in 2011, the sub-brand’s stated purpose is to be at the forefront of private cloud storage innovation. Asustor is clearly looking to get a slice of the market opened up by its countrymen at first Synology and then QNAP. It’s focusing on the home and SOHO users, with some overlap to larger businesses looking for up to nine-bay rackmount storage....
