Let’s get the physical shock and awe out of the way first. This notebook computer would weigh mighty heavily atop your lap, at close to 4 kg. And while battery life as measured in the lab was not entirely tragic at around 4 hours, if you have pretensions of travel with the M6800 you will need to pack a big charger, a flattened brick of a mains adaptor the size of a paperback, itself tipping the scales at another kilo....

In fact, the Dell Venue 11 Pro is actually a conventional Windows 8 tablet in the Surface mold, and it’s the accessories that you choose for it that allow it to be used as a desktop or laptop system. There are several different configurations available, with the basic tablet starting at £439 with an Intel Atom processor running at 1.46 GHz, 2 GB of memory, 64 GB of slow eMMC flash storage and the 32-bit version of Windows 8....

Garmin Vivoactive smartwatch review: Design Garmin has opted for a square design for the Vivoactive. We prefer the look of circular smartwatches but wouldn’t say that the Vivoactive is unattractive. It’s available in either black or white, and is fairly thin at 8mm though perhaps too large overall for those with dainty wrists. Its display is 1.13 x 0.8in, and has a resolution of 205 x 148 pixels. It’s a full colour touchscreen designed with outdoor use in mind, apparently readable in sunlight but we’ll have to wait until we can get one outside to test that....

It’s tough to turn off the tech completely, and it’s nice to catch up with what’s going on at home. Perhaps you’re away when there’s a major sporting event on or you just want to watch the latest episode of your favourite TV show or YouTube channel. Often you’ll find that content is blocked because you’re out of the country and the video is restricted to residents only.
