Acer is still making the 14in Swift 5 with 8th-gen chips for less, but the 15in model packs a bigger display in a very similar footprint. At 990g it is superbly portable thanks to the incredibly light magnesium-lithium alloy used for the shell. It’s a powerful Windows laptop with a slight form factor but larger screen. Price & Availability The Alcatel 5 is the most premium smartphone of the eponymous brand. While top-of-the-range normally means a price in excess of £600, this device only costs 229,99€ (around £202). That’s almost in the budget range, and most certainly the bottom end of the mid-range. The Echo Plus is the most expensive Echo without a screen, but why should you buy it instead of the Echo 2 or Echo Dot? The main reason is for its in-built ‘smart hub’ which other Echos lack. It effectively replaces other hubs, such as Philips’ Hue Bridge and those which use the ZigBee wireless standard. The Echo Plus has now been replaced with a new model, as of September 2018....

A refurbished Voyage sells for £139.99. The Voyage is special because it has the highest resolution display of any Kindle eReader. Cramming 1440×1080 pixels into the same-as-ever 6in size means a pixel density of 300ppi. Those, of course, are all just numbers. It’s what they mean in reality that makes the difference. Text is laser-sharp with none of the jaggedness of the screen you’ll get for £59. It’s noticeably sharper than the Kindle Paperwhite’s 1024×768-pixel display....

But it is worth the money? This model is a little more expensive than the one it replaces – the AG352UCG – but has a new panel which runs 20Hz faster, offering G-Sync at 120Hz. AMD Freesync versions are a bit cheaper, but big, curved ultrawide screens only drop below £550 when resolution goes down to 2560×1080....

Rewind to the iPhone 4, which launched in June 2010, and its 3.5in screen seemed perfectly normal and usable. Now, just over a decade later, we’re used to phones with near-7in screens. That’s not twice as big: it’s four times the display real-estate available on the iPhone 4. Of course, the screen-to-body ratio has increased massively, which is why the iPhone 13 Mini can pack a 5.4in display into a device that’s easy to hold in one hand....

Apple Music vs Spotify: Price Like pretty much every other music streaming service out there, Spotify and Apple Music technically both offer free and premium accounts. It must be said though that free on Apple Music means almost nothing. Aside from the Connect part of the service, where artists (or more likely their PR companies) post photos, notes, or maybe even rough cuts of songs, the only free thing available is Beats 1, a new global, 24-hr radio station that features real DJs and an interesting mixture of tracks....

Despite Apple asking developers not to post benchmarks of the device, results have inevitably sprung up already. The machines are posting around 800 on benchmark software Geekbench 5’s single core test and between 2500 and 2900 in the multi-core score. For comparison, we benchmarked the Intel Core i3 2020 MacBook Air at 2380 for multi-core. Impressively, this means that Apple’s new machine is running better than a current MacBook Air even though the results are virtualised....

Where the Zenbook hopes to stand out against the competition is with an ultrabook that’s ultralight without being ultrathin – which may sound like a bad thing, until you remember that means massively improved connectivity, including USB-A ports. BBC Three unveiled two new platforms: The Best Of – which will bring together original long-form programmes and a range of new content, including short form films – and The Daily Drop – home to BBC Three’s new stream of daily content including short-form videos, blogs, social media, image galleries, trending stories and daily updates from news and sport. The Daily Drop will roll out in Beta over the next few days....
