This is the best-looking Sony phone for some time, looking equal parts like a Pixel 2 XL and Galaxy S9 but with a unique glass back that you’ll either love or hate. We still aren’t sure it does enough for us to recommend it over those phones though, despite its high points. But credit to Sony – it has made a beautiful piece of phone hardware at a reasonable flagship price and improved in key areas....

The highly unusual spike began very suddenly on a single day, 19 August, taking the estimated number of clients connecting through a sample of several dozen mirrors to an astonishing 1.2 million per day, figures show. For comparison, the average for the last year has been around 500,000 per day, with the odd peak of perhaps just under 600,000 users per day. Prior to that, there have been occasional spikes that have temporarily driven traffic beyond 500,000 per day, but the latest surge has proved hard to explain....
So if we are to ignore the differences in speed, capacity, features and so forth, does it really matter how old it is? Let’s start with the good, then. Available in various colours, of which our review sample is a refreshingly bright orange, the Pebble Verto has a funky design with a soft-touch rubber surface that’s great for grip. These drives used the Marvell 88SS1074 controller, 512MB of LPDDR3 cache memory and Sandisk’s 15nm TLC NAND modules. Their performance was fine, though not exceptional. Fortunately, it’s easy to work out whether overloading it or not, and we’ll explain how. First, note that UK sockets aren’t actually rated as 13A (13 amps). They’re typically on a ‘ring main’ which is fed from a 32A breaker or fuse. It’s usually the plug which is limited to 13A, but most electrical devices – certainly anything PC related – is much more likely to have a 3A or possibly 5A fuse....

For example, the dronecode says you can’t fly within 50m of a building that’s not owned or controlled by the drone operator which likely rules out your back garden. As we reported earlier this month, performance on many AMD Ryzen PCs drops noticeably after the user updates to Windows 11. Increased cache latency leads to a performance decline of between 3-5%, but this can reach 10-15% in demanding games “commonly used for eSports”. Elsewhere, issues with AMD’s “preferred core” technology reduces performance during tasks that rely heavily on the CPU. If you’re still running Windows 10 on an AMD Ryzen device, you can now upgrade without worrying about any hit to performance....
The site, which hosts more than 17.9 million blogs, was unavailable for around six hours starting at 3:30pm GMT. WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg said the attack affected all three of its data centres in Chicago, San Antonio and Dallas. “This is the largest and most sustained attack we’ve seen in our six-year history. We suspect it may have been politically motivated against one of our non-English blogs but we’re still investigating and have no definitive evidence yet,” he said....

The user experience we received with the Xiaomi Note 3 is what we were hoping for with the Xiaomi Mi 4C. Unlike that phone, the software hadn’t been altered before the Note 3 was shipped to us, and so we got exactly the experience Xiaomi intended. That’s not to say it is a great experience out of the box for UK users, which is largely down to the fact that Xiaomi phones don’t come preinstalled with Google apps and much of the language in the preinstalled software is Chinese....
