And the Sony Xperia Z3 and iPhone 6 are important releases for their manufacturers. Manufacturers such as LG, HTC and Samsung have arguably moved ahead of Sony, and definitely left behind Apple, over recent years, in terms of the all-round packages contained in their flagship smartphones. It doesn’t seem to have affected either Sony- or Apple’s market share or profitability, but as the smartphone market matures the next couple of years is likely to prove critical to the ongoing fortunes of both of these tech giants....

Important update: Y-Cam has just changed its policy on free cloud storage. Previously it offered seven-day rolling storage for free, which made it the most generous of any smart security camera. Now, it says it cannot afford to do this for longer than one year. After that the storage costs £2.99 per month per camera, or £4.99 per month if you opt for the Plus Premium service (this is a 50 percent discount off the usual price and the deal lasts for one year)....

Zendure has once again refreshed its second-generation A-series – for the fourth time (but still in its second-generation). Now, at the end of 2017, it has renamed it again to Adrenalin Edition. Not after the hormone, as you might guess, but after a red rose which matches Radeon’s red colour. The drivers include updates to Radeon Chill, WattMan, ReLive and Enhanced Sync. There’s the usual performance improvements too (AMD reckons there’s been a 15 percent boost in performance on average since Crimsom ReLive was first launched). But the big news is a new in-game overlay which lets you check on your GPU, message friends and change settings....

Intel remains the market leader, but the Ryzen 5000 Series took performance on the AMD side to the next level. These desktop processors were the first to run on the company’s new Zen 3 architecture, although they’ve since been joined by laptop-focused mobile chips. AMD typically staggers the release of its new silicon, and that’s no different this time around. In April 2021, the company revealed the new Ryzen 5000 G-Series, which focus on gaming and content creation, before new budget CPUs arrived almost a year later....

You can download the Developer Preview if you have a Huawei Watch 2, but be warned that it is pretty buggy. You’ll find the necessary software and instructions here. We’d expect to see the Wear OS update land at the same time as Android P, for which the final release is expected in mid- to late August....

Desktop chargers are essential gadgets for homes with multiple USB-connected devices, allowing you to charge multiple phones, tablets, wearables – even laptops – from a single box. Like most of its mesh rivals, the Lyra provides multiple routers that can be placed in separate rooms or locations and then linked together in order to create a wider ‘mesh’ network. However, the emphasis with the Lyra seems to be very much on larger homes. Most mesh systems provide the option of either two or three routers, but the Lyra is currently only available as a three-piece kit that is designed to cover homes of 4000 – 6000 square feet....

With the combined effect of last year’s ROG Phone 2 launch and an assortment of other rumours around this year’s release, it was already assumed that Asus would pull the wraps off the ROG Phone 3 in July. Tencent Games, who has an involvement in various established titles – including League of Legends, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite – posted on Chinese social media site Weibo on 23 June that the ROG Phone 3 will be arriving next month....

That is the total time including charging them from the case, but the impressive part is that they can last up to 20 hours between those charges. There’s noise cancelling, too, and they’ll still last 15 hours with that turned on. The 50-hour total matches the best battery life we’ve seen from wireless earbuds, but even the Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch has to run in a low-power mode to achieve it....
